Firefly Car Hire Guide to Bordeaux

Car Hire Bordeaux

Bordeaux Overview:

Bordeaux is world famous for its excellent wines and vineyards, but the city also has a lot more to offer the tourist. You can visit a variety of public parks and museums, including the Museum of Natural History, which is near the city’s Public Gardens, and at Quai des Chartrons you can tour the Colbert naval battle cruiser, which was built in the 1950s and in use until 1990, to find out what life would have been like on board.

Places of interest in Bordeaux include:

Bordeaux has a wonderful atmosphere and is full of history. You can visit the Grand-Theâtre or the Palais Rohan, both of which were built in the eighteenth century, and there are many old churches to see, including the Cathedral of St André, which contains beautiful sculptures dating back to the 13th century, and the marvellous Gothic Basilique Saint-Michel, which can be found in Quartier Saint-Michel. Children will love Bordeaux Zoo and the Museum Aquarium at Arcachon, and if you’re feeling energetic, don’t miss out on the Landes de Gascogne Regional Nature Park, which is packed full of exciting things to do, including kayaking and hiking.

Bordeaux also boasts a wealth of fantastic shopping opportunities, and Rue Sainte-Catherine is a shopper’s dream. Bordeaux offers you a choice of designer boutiques and regular shops bursting with fabulous items. Antique lovers should try Rue Notre-Dame in the Quartier des Chartrons. After some retail therapy, you can relax in one of the many cafés, where you can sit outside and people-watch. The nightlife here is fun and vibrant with plenty to do, such as going out for a drink, visiting the theatre or having a delicious meal in one of Bordeaux’s many fine restaurants.

Although there is a lot to see and do in Bordeaux, to get the most out of your holiday you’ll need to hire a car. If you hire a car in Bordeaux, you’ll be able to visit other great destinations in the area, like the beach resort of Lacanau or the famous brandy-producing town of Cognac.

Hiring a car in Bordeaux also allows you to experience all that the area has to offer without being restricted by public transport timetables. The region has some wonderful driving routes, and some areas, such as the wine-producing Médoc region can only truly be explored by hire car. If you hire a car in Bordeaux, you can also break up your holiday by spending a few nights in another destination, such as the family friendly Disneyland Resort near Paris.

Getting to Bordeaux and Bordeaux Car Hire:
Bordeaux’s main airport is the Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport (BOD) and you can hire a car from here. You can then simply return your rental car to the airport before you fly home.
